EGSA meeting notes May 26th, 2004, 3:30pm at Mike Isaacson's office Meeting Attendees: Mike Isaacson, Javier, Nacho, Sina and Cintia. Since Mike Isaacson could not attend the EGSA formation meeting, we reviewed the events on the meeting. Then we talked about the first two short term goals of EGSA: write constitution/bylaws and elect/nominate department reps for CS, BInf and AMS. Then we talked about activities/ events and sources of funding. Proposed activities/events to be organized by EGSA: 1) Speaker series: it needs to be held on a regular basis, so we need to determine the best day and time. We should get outside speakers, faculty and students to present. What kind of money we have from National Semiconductors? 2) Grads & faculty gathering: time for students and faculty to talk about ongoing research, exchange ideas, learn what is going on the school,... should it be weekly? At what time should it be? What kind of food should we provide? 3) Picnic or other "family included" activity 4) Events with other student associations 5) trips/visits to industry in Silicon Valley Sources of funding: 1) GSA: speaker events or other events; amount awarded: $300 ~ $500 2) School of Engineering ? 3) Campus ? EGSA board tasks (besides working on constitution/bylaws and getting other Reps): 1) look for information on how to register EGSA within School and campus. 2) write a proposal of events/activities for next academic year. Mike Isaacson's tasks: 1) website for EGSA within SoE 2) EGSA bulletin board 3) is there Grad Students on School boards/committees? 4) figure out National Semiconductors grant for events and how it can be used
