EGSA meeting notes December 09th, 2004, 1:30pm at E2-311 Meeting Attendees: Javi, Nacho, Sina and Cintia. AGENDA ------ 1) SOAR registration 2) Grads/Faculty/Staff Forum on Winter 2005 3) proposal for visits to companies on Silicon Valley 4) proposal for Cookie/tea time MEETING ------- SOAR registration was submitted on December 3rd by Cintia. Javi, Sina, Nathan and Cintia signed it. We still need to hear from SOAR about the meeting with our advisor. We have about US$1100 left at the National Semiconductor fund for next Grads/Faculty/Staff Forums. Cintia reported that Jodi suggested that Darrell should send a letter to Bijoy (from National Semiconductor) asking for more money. Sina thinks EGSA should send the letter. Winter 05 Grads/Faculty/Staff Forum dates and person in charge are as follows: January 12th - Sina January 26th - Nathan February 9th - Javi February 23rd - Nacho March 9th - Cintia We should tell the speakers that they have 30 to 45 min to talk, so this way we have time for questions and discussion. Winter forums will continue on Wednesday at 12pm. Cintia will reserve BE330 and projector for all forums from 11:30am to 1:30pm. In case the person in charge needs to change the day of the week, he/she will be responsible to change reservations. Javi suggested that we meet next week to prepare the proposal for the "visits to companies" on Silicon Valley. Cintia will talk to Katia and JJ. Javi will talk to Cyrus and Jose Renau. Sina suggested we talk to Darrell tomorrow during the open forum about the EGSA room, and about the "Cookie/tea time". Sina drafted a letter asking for funds for the "Cookie/tea time", which we discussed and then approved. Meeting adjourned at 2:35pm. ------ Proposal letter for biweekly Grads meeting: The Engineering Graduate Student Association (EGSA) is planning a series of social events involving Graduate Students and Faculty. The students and faculty would come together every other week for a lunch break and to discuss their current research. We are planning these events every other week on Fridays from 12 to 1pm on the court outside Engineering 2 building (weather permitting). We are expecting a total number of sixty grad students and faculty members to attend these events. We are expecting an eight dollar per person charge, which will total US$480 biweekly cost. We believe that these events will boost the interaction between grad students and faculty of the School of Engineering.
